Ordinances in the St. Louis Region

Vanessa, I have a good friend that has chickens in St Louis. She was allowed to have them. I believe she has four to five girls.

I live in Bayless which is part of unincorporated St. Louis County, and there are no limits here. The only ordinance my husband was able to find was one that said they cannot be a nuisance, so we don't keep any roos (at least not past when they start crowing). He even called the county offices to see if there was a limit and no one could tell him! Now keep in mind that different neighborhoods will have different rules, so you'll have to check the ordinances of each one. And for the record we have 14 chickens right now. They are so much fun!

We have a log home for sale in Oakville 63129. We currently have two ducks and will have chickens after we finish the coop. We are moving to the house next door after the sale of our home, so we will be the neighbors of the new owners. We love the idea of having our own organic eggs and hope that the buyers of the home feel the same!

This link takes you to our craigslist ad for the home if you'd like to take a look. I will send the copy of the county ordinance as soon as I can locate it. Chickens are OK, just not the sale of the eggs. (I am oversimplifying). 

We have an organic garden and are already benefiting from the ducks "contribution" to the cause

Back again Vanessa. I found the St. Louis County Ordinance regarding chickens - it's from 2011 and this is "copy-pasted" from their PDF:

"Chickens (Unincorporated) 

In unincorporated St. Louis County, residents are allowed to keep chickens on their property as pets, but may not breed them for sale or sell any of their bi-products (i.e. eggs). Residents who elect to keep chickens on their property must abide by SLCRO 611.210 and not allow the animals to become a public nuisance. Residents who live in a municipality must check with local ordinances before keeping chickens on residential property. Residents who live in a subdivision should check with their subdivision’s indentures and by-laws for regulations concerning chickens. "
