Goat Toys! How To Make Toys That Are Perfect For Your Goats!

I am a 2 day pygmy goat owner. 2 little charmers, Angus and April. They are settling in nicely with my rabbits and chihuahua. Loving the ideas about play things they might like as already I've shop bought a few unnecessary items. I'm gaining so much info from this site. In Scotland goats are just becoming popular as garden pets. Angus and April are the talk of the neighbourhood!!!

i am about to get a young pygmy goat buck and i wanted a starter toy so they're not bored whilst i get to know them.

Please don't get a buck if you intend to keep it for enjoyment. The only reason people keep bucks is for breeding. It seems to me like you are getting this goat for the purpose of enjoyment, like as a pet. Bucks make terrible pets, they smell bad, they are hard on fences, and can be dangerous. Also, you can't keep a single goat. A lot of people keep their bucks in with a wether of equal size, or another buck.

Bucks are interesting and funny to watch if you have a twisted sense of humor like I do. But they do not make good pets. The only reason to have an intact buck is for breeding purposes. If he is not a breeding buck have him wethered. Both you and he will be much happier.

DEFINATELY DON'T GET BUCKS!!!!! They stink, are bad tempered and vicious. best bet is 2 boy kids that have been castrated shortly after birth. Nannies aren't too bad but they can get tempremental especially when they are on heat. If you have 2 goats they amuse themselves when you are too busy to play with them

Best pets ever arent they? always ready to play and have fun with you but just as happy to do their own thing when you're busy. My 2 like fisher price toys that you press buttons or pull strings to make them play music. Good luck with them

I have a goat he is a guy
A couple of days ago he got attacked by a couple of dogs, having serious bite marks on his but and his neck.
The dogs kill his other male companion and he is very lonely
He likes to head butt
Eat
And follow us around!
He is doing fine he's just lonely

You didn't ask for advice but I'm going to give some anyway. Stop the head butting habit ASAP or you are going to be very sorry. He can hurt you without meaning to. As for the bite wounds, treat with antibiotics and keep them open so they heal from the inside out.If you don't do this, they can heal over the top and underneath a dandy infection can be brewing.

What's your suggestion on how to stop it?

I think what Cassie is referring to is stop encouraging the head butting. If a goat is head butting you, it might seem like play, but that can be dangerous. I suspect you probably think its cute and "headbutt" back with your fist. Stop doing that. Then, if he tries to headbutt you again, give him a nice shove. I don't tolerate that with my goats and neither should anyone. There is a goat at a 4H farm by me that all the 4Hers think is fun to play around with and headbutt with their fists. That goat is very dangerous now, and kids can't go in his pen anymore. It is even dangerous for the adults, too. When you have a 225 lb goat running after you with 12" sharp horns, you have a problem.
