I'll have to remove it later on.. she was awfully upset.. so far no other eggs have hatched yet either. sigh

so sorry

I'm always shocked how people take something typed on a forum so personally :) If I say it here I have done it. No Bull poop from me. I'm not arguing, I'm stating what I see in MY flock of 10 years.I'm NOT P.C. If that offends please just block me :)

I guess anything is possible.

Is she still sitting on the other eggs? do you think she showed the duckling where the food and water was?

Yes, she's still sitting on the other eggs and Yep, the baby knew where the food/water was my oldest saw it drinking last night. I could have brooded it myself but it;s a lone duckling and really mama should do a better job than me er or so i thought, they are younger birds though..  1yo+ but perhaps that is part of the issue.. young and inexperienced.

I had an issue last year with one of my ducks, she sat on 3 eggs, when the one started hatching she actually tried to kill it, she pecked it's head on both sides and would not let it get under her. I tried several times to put the duckling under her she kept pushing him out, finally i brought him inside and raised him. I have always said if a broody does not do a good job then thats her only chance but when this duck was the first to go broody this year I gave in and let her all the while thinking that we'd probably have to bring them in, well she has proved to be a great mama. So  Emmie is 4 this year. I think age may play a roll in some breeds. Only one of her other eggs started hatching last year and because of her ignorance or what ever it was it got shrink wrapped and died while hatching. It's hard to figure these things out. You were right and leaving the baby with it's mother, and you don't know something may have been wrong that couldn't be seen. How long has she been on the eggs now?
