I went out to let everyone out and 2 of my girls were doing the broody noise one even had feather lining her nest with 2 eggs already in it, one of the girls duckling is just 9 weeks old today. Well not doing anymore broodys this year, So I had to take those eggs then get the girls out and close the door, I felt so bad for them well the one since she has never had the experience but theres always next year. I know I'm probably going to have to sell the ones my girl Faith is sitting on and thats going to be hard enough to deal with.  hmm.png

I don't envy you on that one. So sorry you didn't get any more ducklings. I haven't seen the newest of ours yet today mama is keeping it under wraps but I hear it peeping. I am so thankful to have this duckling, the BYCer I was getting my gosling from lost them all after hatch. sad.png   So Sammy will have this one to be a daddy too, because he doesn't like Faith so I'll have to see how he acts around her ducklings.

Well, I put the duckling in with the mom -- it was too young to be worried and just sat there looking around and twittering little ducky noises.  The two older ducklings came over and nibbled on it, and the Momma duck hissed at me and tried to bite me.  So I backed off and watched all three burrow under her.   It was like it was meant to be . ..  haven't checked this morning yet up close, but I can see her spot from the house, and I can see thea  ducklings moving around, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

A few days makes so much difference -- the duckling was tiny compared to the 5 day olds . . .

So, Miss Lydia, does that mean you aren't going to get a gosling this year after all?  That is so sad.  I would give you one of mine if only we lived close enough!

I will have to enlist some help tonight and really look at these eggs...

Lilly keeps chasing dusty out of the barn... and spot(oldest drake) did a jab at junior today, wth? barnie.gif I kept a real sharp eye on him after that, no idea what that was all about..

sigh. now i have to try and figure out where to get Muscovy girls, i need young ones ... this should be fun.not.

Would you ever sell me hatching eggs from your runners? I really want to hatch ducks this summer and it would be cool to have a bunch of different breeds.

Do you have this in Canada?  http://www.bestfarmbuys.com/          Was just looking for geese there. Oh my youngest drake tries to push Andy around but it doesn't go very far, that will be next year. Thats too bad about the eggs, just seems something wasn't quiet right up there or here this year. If I was closer I would let you have Faiths girls if she has any. She is down to just 2 eggs now.

That would have been awful!  you Must have felt terrible.

I don't think so.. i am considering contacting the lady we got the trio of ducks off of last year, a swap was over in early May.. but i didn't need more ducks i thought i'd get some from mine. roll.png There is the livestock/ farmers market out at the Auction place each weekend where i got my two drakes from last summer but i am hesitant .. i am supposed to be getting my chicks this weekend so i don't want to bring outsiders in right now...

I am honestly considering a different breed, not that there is a darn thing wrong with the 'scovies just ducks are hard to get, but other breeds can be more readily found.. i don't want to breed again so the whole mule thing is a non issue of coarse i need a bigger bird since there are drakes.. they'd crush a call like a pancake.. lau.gif

I appreciate the offer, i wish we were closer too... i'd love some of your birds thumbsup.gif

Is it normal/OK for 2 ducks to sharing brooding duty(and have it turn out positive)?Curious of chances of any hatches as my 2 WH hens take turns sitting on eggs now. After the 1 hen didn't come home 3 nights ago I found her and she is now penned and is sharing sit duty. Will candle soon(was going to do it last night but too soon I think?) and discard any probable duds and maybe more(10 original eggs)
