Here is picture from 07/15/2012 after big rains we got.

Here are more from 07/22/2012:

Stroll through the tall grass. Yeap need to mow again.

700

Nibbling on grasshoppers n grass seeds along the way.

700

Say what is that?

700

 Where?

700

Up there!

700

Oh My! That is a big scary bird up there!

700

Lets go blend in with the chickens.

700

A few days later the big scary bird (Hawk) snatched my smallest white silkie rooster Charlie up. The Hawks watch for loners that stray from the main flock and do not heed the warning calls.

The White Silkie in the picture above is the taller one Charming. He is trying to sneak up on Mrs. Grumpy.

07/30/2012 munching on the millet plant grown wild under the bird feeder. The hen near them is a big Wyandotte. It gives you an idea of how big they are getting.

I am beginning to think Phoenix is a girl and Skyflower is a boy as Phoenix has a dash of irredescent feathers on her back; whereas, Skyflower is getting them all over his head and neck. Skyflower gets flashier each day.

Tried to get some fun shots but just got blurrs as they move to fast for my camera. Everyone had watermelon treat yesterday evening when I got home. The Peas heads were bobbing soo fast I could not get a good shot of em.

Hope everyone is staying as cool as possible this summer. wink.png

They are beautiful.

Sorry you lost your silkie, it is hard for them to see above even with just a bit of fluff on their heads.

last chicken i lost to a falcon was a silkier hen in 2009, it did not get to eat it's kill because of the dogs and he left ,it  was just migrating threw , all the local hawks no better and don't mess with the birds.

I have a very young eagle that has been hanging out for the past 3 weeks, I have been putting  out corn for the deer and it is catching the squirrels and rabbits by the feeder and so far it has not messed with the birds.

All the peas were rubberneck-en out by the duck pond yesterday and when i went to find out why the eagle was at the pond , they chased it till it left the area.

wow they're beautiful love.gifI think Pheonix is a boy, my black shoulder looks totally different and i was told she's a girl because she doesn't have black feathers like yours. here's a pict of her at 8 weeks.

see how different they are? midnight doesn't have any black feathers, just a few dark brown. i didn't know it was so obvious till seeing picts of yours :) they're gorgeous, keep updating the picts as they grow, we love em.

Awe, but I just want one of em' to be a girl so bad. Well, maybe the next Trade Day in Conroe that is in October someone will have some Peahens for sale.

Yep birds of prey are always on the look out for an easy target. I keep my Silkies poofs trimmed, but if they space out and don't pay attention then they get seperated from the flock. Charlie had a space cadet personnality. Rita is my biggest ding bat, but always manages to not get the hawks attention. Ofcourse she is always shadowing Cinnimon who is my older more alert Silkies Rooster.

Yep, sunshine is miracle grow.
It felt like a really long time of Phoenix's eye to heal. Now you would never know by looking at him that there was an issue.

The Peas were up to something behind the goat pen...what could they be doing?

1000

AHA!! Finally, caught them practicing their fan techniques! I used the tree as cover while I began snapping pics...Must have caught Phoenix at the end of his display as Skyflower dominated the show the rest of the time.

1000

Funnyboy watches them for a bit from the bachlor pen. (top left of the pic below)

Iddy Biddy wanders by and gets the star fan show.

Loader is sticking on me, lets see if I can load the rest....

Poor Phoenix is getting bored.

1000

Uh-oh, Phoenix spots me.

1000

Hey! Watcha doing over there?

1000

Yep, the show ended as I was caught. ep.gif

But I had fun getting some great pics of the boys today. Both Phoenix and Skyflower are getting more curious and have been testing their flight abilities more n more. Phoenix flew across the yard at a low level then straight up to the top of Dad's shop. He looked back down like WOW I just did that? Skyflower was looking up at him as if to say "cool".

Well the boys decided to fly up to the porch railing to see what we were doing inside. We ofcourse were eating dinner and watching them watch us. Skyflower's irredescent feathers are so cool looking. They look green then he turns and you can see blue n purple colors mixed in there. Phoenix is getting more irredescent feathers as well. While sitting on the porch railing they spotted the cat food. They were acting like naw we're not interested; however, Phoenix snuck up the steps a little while ago to steal some bits of cat food.

They are definitely entertaining fellas.
