Help me guess genders of EE/Ameraurcana chicks, 4-5 wo

hi all,

These little guys are a little over 4 weeks old now, and it's time to start guessing...who's a girl?

Candidate #1

This is the one I think is most likely a boy.  Comb seems a little more prominent to me than on others.  And it keeps chest-bumping others and sometimes even pecking to establish dominance.

Candidate #2

Girl, I think.  Tiny little comb.

Candidate #3

I just don't know.  Smallest tail of the lot, by far.

Candidate #4

I can't tell on this one either.  The pic of the comb is washed out a bit (taken by my preschooler), but it's kind of in the range of chick #3--neither gaining prominence, nor noticeably small.  It's legs are yellow, whereas everyone else in this lot had grey-green legs.  The parents were three grey-green legged females and a yellow-legged male.  I don't know if leg color is at all sex-linked in EE.

So, what do you think?

hrm, the pics don't come up except as a large group, and I'm going cross-eyed trying to go back and forth to match the pics with the bird.  Can you upload the pics directly to BYC?

Yes, I just finished.  BYC has made it so darn easy to post pics now that I got myself thoroughly confused trying much more complicated approaches. :p But it should be easy to view now.  Thanks for checking!

EE 1 and 3 are cockerals....you can tell by both the combs and the red on the shoulders. Not as sure on the othere 2 since the coloring is hen-like, but those combs still look pretty bumpy for pullets to me.

I agree with the 1 and 3 being cockerels.

I also wanted to say that I think your preschooler does an excellent job taking pictures! smile.png

I do not see a pullet's comb in the entire bunch, to tell the truth. Pretty Easter Eggers, though!

They all look like cockerels' combs, wide with all three rows of "peas" prominent already. Even #2 has a super wide comb for an EE pullet, but that may be your only slim hope for a girl, IMO. If those were Ameraucanas or Easter Eggers in my coop, I'd call all males.

I agree. #2 is the only one with a small chance of being a pullet.
