Something got 7 of our nine chickens last night :( The feed store has day old b.orpingtons and day old ri reds. Which would you choose? We had orpingtons and loved them. but what would mix well with the survivors? The survivors are about 3 mths old....one lakenvelder and one golden sex link. What would you choose between the two?

I have rhode island reds ,red sex links and new hampshire reds and i love them they have darder red color but the red sex links are little lighter in red color closer to buffs but darker than buff in red color Buffs are gr8 though

Get a conglomeration(mix) of them there for variety's sake. As Matt mentioned there's not much more than a nickels worth of difference betwixt them. I was just out looking at my factory/hatchery bunch this morning Pro reds(RIR), Barred rocks, RSLs, Delawares. they all have the same Leghorn type body conformation just all have different paint jobs and some even have that dreaded wall-eyed/high-tailed, flighty, leghorn attitude. BUTTT... they lay like there's gonna be no tomorrow though, you go girls, LOL

i have BO now and am incubating RIR i think both are great

the RIR are great for dreating Hybrids and the BO are docile and cant fly

so its what you want them for which will help you decide
