mystery chick

this bird was a freebie from mcmurray hatchery, so i have no idea what it is. we call her "dino" as she looks like a dinosaur - very short wings, very long legs, runs fast. 5 weeks old and she is just now starting to feather. looks like she'll have feathered legs, so i'm thinking cochin? not big enough for a brahma i don't think. just curious to see if anyone has a clue as to what this crazy bird is??? thanx.

not a great picture, but this little t.rex won't stand still! second pic is better.mysterybird (8).jpgmysterybird (9).jpg

Does she have a pea comb? Brahmas have pea combs, Cochins have single combs. Good luck!

It's the shape that makes the breed, and the color that makes the variety.

Whatever it is appears to be male.

Yeah, it looks like a rooster, what ever it is. I don't know, but the way it stands reminds me of an OEG or something. Does anyone else think so?

I am crazy about a lot of things. Chickens, reading, writing stories, and most importantly my King, Jesus. :D

what makes you all think it's a "he"? i'd like to know how to tell the difference. i've had my suspisions, as they are getting to that "pecking order" age and this one is very active in the dominance games.

That's a boy alright with the patchy feather growth and reddened comb with those thick legs.

Well the wattles are well developing and the legs are big and meaty, a sign of a rooster. X2 up above also.

well, i wouldn't doubt it. this one was the "free exotic chick" mcmurray always gives you. and i would think 99% of the free chicks are males.

so this gives me 3 roosters when i only ordered 1. that's gonna be a problem. 3 roos for 24 hens? that's not gonna work, is it?

looks like i'm gonna have to try to find a taker for couple of them.
