I'm brand new to the world of chickens. i helped treat one at the hospital i work in and really liked her. my husband and i have been doing our research and have hit a wall with the setback lines. no one will return our calls from the zoning office (shocking, i know!) anyone out there happen to know them for brick, NJ?

i've got the answer incase anyone else needs the info!!!! after two weeks of unreturned calls and unreturned emails, i drove down to the office. here's the scoop on where to put the coop

as long as you are abiding by the chicken aspect of the law (in my case no more than 4 and no roosters) the coop is considered a shed and has a 5'setback from the neighbors.

Thanks. This is helpful info. I could not find it either and was unsure about placement. Ours is still in the works but is over 8' from neighbors. I thought the setback was 5" but could not find anything to verify it short of doing exactly what you did.

I know this thread is old but I am in Brick and looking to start up some chickens too for meat and eggs as well. The town municiple code has no mention of rooters what so ever, there is also no limit on how many you can have providing set backs are 5ft and they have a roof.
§ 98-34
Class IV animals.

[Added 5-8-2001 by Ord. No. 321-B-01]
No more than four animals of Class IV shall be kept or maintained on any property unless they are contained in a covered enclosure within all zoning setback lines applicable for accessory uses with the size of the enclosure being adequate for the number of animals contained as may be approved by the Township Animal Control Officer.

I am going to call during the week to ask about a rooster but I can't find anything about having one at all. Where you told something else?
