Chick's beak out of pip hole... advice?

I have been incubating 4 eggs.  I candled on Day 20 and all 4 eggs were still good.  Day 21 was yesterday.  As of last night, only one egg had pipped.  I continued to watch all day today.  3 eggs have still not done anything.  I am concerned about the egg with the pip.  Throughout the day, the pip hole has gotten just slightly bigger.  Earlier this evening, I noticed that the membrane was broken.  Now the chick's beak is in the pip hole.  Should I leave it alone?  Should I grab the tweezers and zip the shell for it?  I have never helped out a chick.  I am just concerned that if the chick's beak is out of the pip hole then it will not be able to pull it back inside the egg to zip around.  What should I do?

Leave it alone. It sounds like it is hatching fine. Even if it doesn't seem like it is going to hatch don't help. I helped a chick my last hatch and it turned out to be a bad idea. It was deformed and I had to cull it.

Well I posted this thread last night. By early this morning, I still did not have any responses so I went ahead and helped out. I wrapped the egg in a warm moist towel and chipped a zip around the egg with tweezers while still leaving the membrane in place (although the membrane is broken where the pip is and the beak is sticking out.) I placed it back in the incubator and made sure the humidity was still nice and high. I later saw your two replys and thought, well too late now...

Anyway, the whole day has gone by and the chick is still in the egg with the beak out the pip hole. He is still alive as he is chirping a lot. I am not sure what to do. He piped on tuesday night... Which was hatch night, I zipped his shell early on Thursday morning and it is now late Thursday night.... He is still alive... What should I do???

I helped the chick out of the shell. I regret doing so. It's head was twisted upside down... I think it's neck was broken or something... It will not move. I helped him out yesterday and laid him back inside the incubator. He has not moved. He s still alive though... Just laying there. I guess I have to cull my first chick. I so do not want to. sad.png

do not try to help chick up to 30 hours from the pip started....  but in most cases you must help her out otherwise she die... Most people say's in different forums not to touch egg or don't help chicks etc.. But i don't believe... in my last hatch i helped one and she is still very fine without any problem....What can you do ,, if you see membrane stick onto chick and chicks is not even able to move.. If you don't help she will die.... BUT QUESTIONS IS WHEN TO HELP..

 

 

In my personal exp...

 

(1) Increase humidity up to 65 to 75% ...Don't open bator after pip... if you do so in excitement or for some other reason,, them membrane can dry and stick on chick ,,, in this cond.. chick cannot move for further zip

 

(2)do not help up to 30 hours...But if you see help is essential. follow this link http://wiki.answers.com/Q/When_can_you_help_a_chicken_egg_hatch

 

(3) During removing membrane if you see blood .. stop put egg back into the bator..

 

(4) Last but not least ''Dont excite ... sit back and relax ...... let the chick do its own work.. "
