Help! Somebody is pecking at her comb!!!

Thread Starter

Yesterday, we noticed that the comb on our beautiful Barred Rocks Oprah's head was bloody as if one of our other 5 hens has been pecking at it. There's some blood in the roosting area, like they were fighting in there. How can I identify the culprit bully and stop the behavior? What should I do to treat Oprah's comb? Can I clean it? Do I need to separate them?

This is my first flock, and they are only a year old. Any advice? Thanks!

Most likely there isn't much you can do. It is a pecking order thing. Just clean the injured comb and keep an eye. It is a sad reality. I always remind myself that they are not being mean, it is instinct.
