Introducing two mature hens

I currently have a roughly year old hen and I will be bringing my second hen home Monday (hopefully), who is also a rougly year old hen. What is the best way to introduce the two hens? My coop is on the smaller side, 2 foot by 4 foot or so, and a lot of the room is taken up by the nesting boxes. I am hoping to get a fenced in area set up before the new hen comes home.

Sneak the new bird on the perch at night when both are sleeping.  The birds will wake up, might have some minor scuffle to decide pecking order.  Wake up before sunrise to observe just in case.  This approach has always worked for me.
