I sure will. Watching Charlotte gently stuff hay around her for the eggs is more than worth the work. And don't get me started on how adorable it is when they clean their beaks with water. So cute! I was thinking about geese......Kinda worried they'll be too protective, though, as in attacking me!

Animal family: Two Betta fish, four White Cloud Minnows, two African Dwarf Frogs, two male gerbils, one quarter horse mare, one blind South Pole bull, five Blue Swedish Cayuga mix ducks, and one mini dachshund. 

 

My pets give me headaches, heartaches and tons of stress, they're hard on the wallet and give nothing back, but they are the light of my life. I wouldn't be who I am without them.

ours leave us alone, we are raising a baby now with our baby ducks so they will all grow up together they pick on him now but in a few weeks he will be bigger then he will be their protector. we interact with our big duck run all the time our male goose yells and hisses but that is about it and the female watches and runs back and fourth very close to us she is testing me every day but never have I been bitten or chased by one I bring food and clover to them so I guess I get a free pass.

Huh.....Interesting....I'll consider getting some! If there's way they can be safe, I need to have it. But then, my ducks are already grown, so I don't know if it'd work.

We added two adult Pekin's with our adult Geese and Runners and the Geese were not happy at first but did not hurt them the runner ducks on the other hand picked on the Pekins for a few days but all was well and everyone seems to accept each other now, Our Drake Goose George has even taken on watching over the Juvenile run and teaching the three month old ducks that when he yell's that means hide and he started to teach the two month old goose watch the sky and the ground and let everyone know when there is trouble.  We do have a pair of Geese in our adult run from my understanding and what i have been told Geese do better in pairs.

That is so cool! My ducks are a mix of Blue Swiss and something that starts with a C......I dunno, I forgot. But yeah, so back to geese. They require the same kind of care? I just feed my ducks cracked corn at night, since they're only in there at night, and have their share of fish, bugs, grass, seeds and whatever else a duck eats. We have a big creek that goes across our property. It's not all that deep or wide, but it's very long, and there are plenty of water snakes, fish and water bugs that inhabit it. Would these conditions be alright for a few geese? I don't know if I'll even get any, but as I said, if they'll protect my tiny flock, I will seriously consider it. 

 

Oh, and you named your goose drake George? One of my drakes is named George. :-D I named the other on Henry. lol.png

yep we have George and Gracie, I would not get geese and turn them out right away i would coop them for a week or so so they know where their food is and then let them out with the ducks they will warn them when to hide, We have runners and a Cayuga  and some pekins and the Geese who I did not think I would like at first seem to complete the little pack.

Thanks for all the info. I just might get some. I would still put them in at night, but I've lost one duck in broad daylight by a raccoon who was fearless. Again, thank you! I've never really liked the little goof balls, but then, I've never really cared for them. I always thogutht hey were about as useful as an evil duck, but I was wrong. :-)

I always liked ducks so I was lucky to get mine last Christmas has a gift from my sister and added a few more this spring. I don’t get the time with them I would like has I have to drive to town to work but I do enjoy talking to them when I am working around the house on the weekends and currently we have a special needs duck we got from a photographer who used him at Easter for pictures his little legs are deformed so he lives in a special run we are afraid the others will hurt him so I do get to spend a little more time with him during the week and weekend.

We call him Gimpy and have to help him do lots but we dont mind we know he will never be able to live with the others so once he figures out how to do for himself we will move him to his own run and get him a goose or two to look after him
