Hi there,
I went out to open the coop this morning. All 7 of the girls came out as usual, but when I went to open the people door to get the feeder out, I saw bright red blood on some poop in the pine shavings. I panicked and of course thought it was coccio, but then I looked around and realized the blood was spattered around on the walls, perch, and pine shavings. So then I went to look at the 3 that were perched in that area last night. One of them has a beak covered in blood, it looks like perhaps it came from one nostril. Last night when I closed up the coop, I had gotten out there well after sundown, so I disturbed them when I put their feeder in the coop, and I remember when I closed the coop door, there was a sound like a woodpecker coming from inside. It has happened a couple of other times over the last couple of years that one of them (perhaps the same one) will do this after I close the door, but it has never been this severe. What should I do? Will she heal herself? I didn't see her eat this morning, but I never see her eat first thing. She was walking around just fine. I'm worried about her though!
