When can we turn the lights off?

Chicks are 6-7 weeks old and we have a light over the brooder still. It's not very close to the top of the brooder though. And the chicks don't congregate under it. Though one might lay under it now and then.

As long as it's not to cold in Indiana. You could have taken the lights out 2-3 weeks ago. Our nights have dropped to around 50. my youngest are just now 4 weeks and turned the lights off the other day. They in the garage now but will be going outside in the next few days.

The general concensus appears to be 4 weeks if night temps are above 60*, 5-6 weeks if lower. So you should be ready to turn off the light. smile.png Anyway, your chicks are the best indicator, so watch them and see if they act cold in the dark.
