I have felt this round bump on chest before on her/him but maybe its more noticeable only because her chest is wet and pink skin shows more. She's acting normal, very active and noisy. The swelling seems just a tad bit more towards one side. Should we be concerned because its not normal to be that swollen or is this normal?
Thanks

Here's a pic from a couple of days ago:

Well I should have researched this before posting, but it appears this is normal as they can build up a good crop if they even a good amount. We're new to raising chickens so I guess this is part of the learning process. We're taking away her food for the night and hope it goes down tomorrow.

I just went through the same thing and posted here about it..I am not new to raising chicks, but had not witnessed this before and panicked. 4 of mine had large crops, and one was so huge it looked like a shelf, and he'd even fall over! Turns out they are just "fatty mcfatties" as someone here put it..They stuff themselves like sausage. I was told as long as they are eating, drinking, pooping normal and are being normal active chicks, not to worry. If the crop feels hard or the chick is acting odd/lethargic then you might have an issue and need to intervene.
You can give them plain yogurt which will be good for them anyways. You can also add 1 tbs of raw ACV(apple cider vinegar-I use the braggs kind("with the mother") per one gallon of water as a supplement. It has a lot of good antibacterial properties, I use this with my dog and other animals for various things.

A "good crop" I would think means a healthy crop, as in no issues. The crop is the little pouch above their chest where food goes before it is passed through he rest of the digestive system.
Here is a handy chart to get you familiar with chicken anatomy.

Hope this helps!

I have had birds for 3 years, and I have seen this but only in the first year. I told my husband I thought one had a tumor and would probably not live, and it happened to be the only one my 4 and 5 year old at the time were attached too. I was so glad when I saw that this is what it was. Glad you figured it out, we all learn with our birds and we all see things at different times, and good luck! I am so glad there is a community here we can find info and get some feedback!

I came across this thread, worried because one of my 2 week old chicks has this. These are our first chicks ever so I have a lot to learn. I know this is an old thread but I'm still really confused about what is causing this. My chick is acting perfectly normal. Should I separate this chick from the others and offer her the yogurt and apple cider vinegar as mentioned earlier in this thread? Do I need to hold her feed? Is this because she is over-eating? We already love our little chicks and I don't want to be doing anything worng that might harm them.

That is just their food. When they eat a whole bunch their crops will be full and you can feel it. When they don't eat anything you can feel it is empty. That is nothing but normal.
