P.S. a couple more recent shots WOW is this little bugger growing and not afraid of the bug chickens either LOL,

Mind you of all our birds they are all Marys or for the grand kids and this is my only chicken LOL

The Guinies don't count they are tools for pest control smile.png

boy oh boy now she's getting me into chickens LOL

P.S. and ideas weather Cockerel or pullet??

I think that the white on the tip of Dweezle's beak is probably acceptable but the white on his/her's feet is not. Breeding him/her to a good quality silkie should correct it. You might have a few chicks that are not show quality but I believe that for the most part they would be good quality. That first pic makes me think that Dweezle's eyes may be lightning up and may turn orange.  You would want to breed for black eyes by crossing him/her with a silkie. It's too early at this point to tell on Dweezle's sex, but so far I see nothing that says "Boy!". I could be dead wrong, but I've been doing a lot of research here lately to improve my own sizzles and have been studying the standard. Either way, Dweezle is super cute!

If you want to check out the silkie standard, here is the link to the American Silkie Bantam Club: http://www.americansilkiebantamclub.org/

Thank you for the standard info!

Sorry if I wind up asking a lot of questions out of the 24 chickens here 4 are my daughters 19 are my wifes and only Dweezle Zappa is mine,

I have bred other exotic animals before and all though not for show per se, but in a concervationist purist kind of way, lets just say I am still awaiting an animal to be born for the last two years to preserve the unique natural genes involved in some of my stock which there are only two breeders in the US with these unique animals.

I do hope that if Dweezle is of a quality to be bred s/he turns out to be a pullet at it would be much easier finding a quality roo to correct his little flaws,

As for his coloring what would you call it? it is not a dark black but more of a charcoal with some white feathering mixed in?

Will this change much during his/her 1st molt?

OK, I have a simple question to ask the more experienced sizzle people....

I have 14 chicks just over 2 weeks old, 15 chicks just over a week old and 11 chicks a couple of days old with 30 eggs still in the bator. Both the 2 week old birds and 1 week old birds have of course started feathering out by now and I can see the wing feathers good on these birds.

My question is this; the birds with the stringy looking wing feathers will most likely have Silkie feathering is this correct?

Out of the first 29 birds that I hatched, 9 have the barbed feathers with 7 of them having frizzled feathers and 2 being the smooth feathered birds. The hens I used are all frizzled feather Sizzles (4 of them) and I used two different Silkie roos over these hens. I have someone that will take all the Silkie feathered birds I hatch so I want to give them to him as soon as I'm sure what's what.

Thanks and I'll try and get some pics up of the barbed feathered birds,

Chris

Your welcome! Dweezle sounds like he might be blue mottled in color. Blue can range from being a light slate color to being almost black. Here are some birds to demonstrate the blue mottled color (courtesy of the internet): http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/cottagegardenspics/Cochins/DSC_1626.jpg

George is all hormonal lately. He is mating whoever he can catch now! Thank goodness! When I breed him to my silkies - what % will come out sizzled, what % will come out frilkied, what % will come out smooth and what % will come out silkie?

I read the whole thread! I'm still not clear on the genetics...but I sure find it interesting. I filled my incubator with eggs today...3 of which are Sizzle. I just sort of wanted to dip my little toe in the Sizzle world. I actually wanted a Silkie..but the woman I got eggs from said she has a Frizzle rooster over three Silkie hens. A red, a partridge, and a buff. I like surprises a lot...so I asked for three. Maybe next time I'll get a couple Silkie. I didn't ask her for specifics on the Frizzle rooster. I'm really excited,, especially after reading the thread. The eggs had a long trip..so my chances are not great...but it'll be fun waiting it out.

Sizzles are a dangerous addiction. I loved mine so much I am about to silkie and frizz a bunch of LF breeds, just for grins. We'll see what hatches but I have ameraucanas, Marans, modern games/silkied, standard silkies, frizzled LF Cochins, silkies, silkied/salmon fav., some of DMRippy's super blue egg layers. Keeping the best std. Silkie roo, and wheaton Marans and silkie roo. All the rest hens. Of omg whatever mixes. I'll sort toward a mental standard once I see how they go. Mostly I'm having fun while I sort out the predator situation in a new place. Sizzles make me happy. lol.png

I posted pictures of a possible sizzle on page 2 - Definitely not a sizzle, but definitely a frilkie!
