Another update on the Silver Wheatens!

Cockerels(note the differences between these two. the one on the left looks like our other 2 cockerels. the one on the right is has a lot of this leakage);

Pullet;

And a comparison between our Sulmtalers and a Spitzhauben;

woo! been a minute since I posted an update here on the Silver Wheatens, albeit I may be the only one posting, I swear I'll bring this breed to everyone's attention! Everyone deserves to know how great these guys are

And here's the Wheaten cockerel who we processed due to a bit of flightiness (we cull for temper AND standard);

P.S: He was delicious. :)

Are they heavily under-downed like an Orp or Ameraucana?

They definitely have a "heavy" bird look to them. You can tell they were bred in the cold, they have a very dense down. We noticed it came in pretty much around the time we put them outdoors (when our temps dropped for the first time this year), they've done great in the cold, they don't bat an eye, and haven't shown any signs of slowing down.

We are planning on only keeping two cockerels, we're only keeping the ones with a lack of black in face/crest. We want a clean line of Silver Wheatens.

Can someone help out a newbie with the different colors? I've tried searching for images but cannot find consistently labeled ones that make sense. What is the difference between a Wheaton and a duckwing? Do the different colors (gold, red, silver) refer to the colors for the males?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Duckwing Sulmtalers do not exist.

I know the varieties I've seen are;

Gold Wheaten (I believe the term is also "red wheaten"?)

Silver Wheaten (Which is also mis-labeled as Gold Duckwing)

Blue Wheaten

White

&

Black

Greenfire farms I believe just mis-labelled them and the terminology stuck. All the UK breeders refer to them as Wheatens, Silver Wheatens, etc. (Same goes for the German breeders I've been able to translate. )

OK.  So Wheaten refers to the pattern and the color refers to the color of the hackles, correct?

As I understand it, duckwing refers to the wing tips being a different color and matching the hackles?
