Who would have known?!! LOL

I love our chickens too!  We have 3 and they all have such distinct personalities and skills!  Just like us. 

my hubby was annoyed at how much we've spent on stuff. lol. i keep telling him that if its built well then we will be spending hardly anything on chickens when we get more next yr  

LOL @ the associated $costs$ of starting up this chicken raising thing!!  I am new to chicken-ing and am loving it!   We have spent just under $1000 too.....a little $ here, a lot of $$ there......lol!  We have 4 chickens......and yes, each one has their own personality!  So fun to just sit and watch them at dusk when I let them free- range until sunset!  (Chick-TV is hilarious!)

Holy cow, you guy must be going deluxe. With originally purchasing 30 chicks and 9 ducks I'm only in approx $275 not counting feed. Feed to date is about $65 for 11 weeks so far. The coop was built from all recycled materials an cost $4 for latches.

We love our chickens too. My husband designs shirts at a shirt company and said he's going to design me a chicken lady shirt because I just have so much fun with them. We have 25 (used to be 26, but one broke his leg and started getting very violent and had to be put down). Between chicken buying, feed, feeders, and coop production we are in just about $500, but we didn't have to buy any lumber at all.

hubby works 80+ hrs a wk right now so he didn't have time to build anything       oh well.      i think it would have been fairly cheap if he had been able to. we have most of the materials around i'm sure

Ugh thats gotta stink working that many hours. Mine does 50 and I thought that was bad.  Its not hard to build a coop, I built ours with the help of my 5yo DS. It's just a simple A frame with a 10'x10' foundation.

I keep track of all my costs. I plan to write things off (I am an accountant) and I have the intent to earn income from breeding. The start up costs are really high.

I spend $15 for feed every week. I just want to break even or even have a little money in the bank from them. I still would be doing it if I didn't earn anything though. Their personalities have me head over heels!
