Set our second hatch Saturday 5/12/12 - Page 8

Good morning!!!  3EE's have hatched and 1LB, lots of pips this morning.  Sadly, I can not see a single pip on any of my SF or Dorkings, yet.  I've got to work for a few hours this morning, I should be home by 2, with any luck I'll at least have some pips with them when I get home.  Yippee!!!!!Bill, I love your camera, it gives new meaning to, "watching the chicken channel", lol......  We say we are watching the chicken channel when the birds are out free ranging and we watch them but you've taken that to a new level, lol....  Have a great day all, pictures when I get home this afternoon!!!!

Becky how exciting!!!  Can't wait to see pictures!!

Bill--how cool is your camera?? I just love it!!  Look at all those babies!!  Do you take out your chicks after they hatch or do you leave them in for a day or two?  Did one JUST hatch?  It looks very wobbly.  I have never seen one after it just hatched--I missed my hatchling last time. You have so many eggs in there it is hard the chickies to walk!!!  Wow I am just amazed!!  It is wonderful!  Thank you for sharing!!!

Wow, all this is so cool!  I love the pix of the new additions.

Yesterday when I got home I found a pip!

1stpip!.jpg

Then by bedtime there were 2 more pips but everyone was quiet.  Eventually we all went to sleep and woke up to the first Ameraucana baby!

I now understand how hard it is to not reach in & take the little one out.  S/he  looks right in my eyes crying for help.  I am trying to remain strong for the other babies though.  They are not really due until tonight so I am trying not to be too stressed about the fact that there are only 2 other pips [out of 15 eggs].

On another note...yesterday I answered an add for a small critter cage to raise these babies in for the first week and I met another BYCer!  This place is popular-LOL!  I got to meet her chickens and lots of good advice for a newbie like me.

We are up to 5 this morning.  Actually four in the last 3 hours.  Heavy rain woke me up so I turned on the computer to check the weather.

Our 11yo is camping at the Massachusetts Girl Scout Camp/Jamboree this weekend.  She may look like one of the chicks right now.  I'm leaving soon to deliver some large tarps. We are in the next town from the event, so we are the home team.  I may stop by the lumber yard and grab a couple rolls of industrual plastic sheeting to donate.  They were expecting 2500-3500 at the event.  Camping looses its fun when you get soaked.

One that hatched was from one of the Blue Eggs and I wanted to make sure I knew which one it was.  Doh!

We will have to make some room in in Juvenile Hall in the coop.  Any local BYC members want some 4 week old Cuckoo Marans - mostly Roosters

Yep, wife says we have a confirmed rooster there.  According to her seeing it's 100% backasswards means it's male.  Well how come our daughter was breech?  Woman's prerogative

yuckyuck.gif  Your wife is funny!

I have 2 chicks hatched so far and another pipped. It was the first one I posted the pic of & I'm getting a little worried that I should intervene??  I couldn't resist & took the 2 chicks out of the incubator window & moved them to the brooder with a heat lamp at the same time I used a pair of hemostats and spread the pip a little to give the chick some air....too afraid to do any more.  I think I might have seen another rocker...may have been wishful thinking.  At this rate my chicks have cost me $65 each-LOL!

Anybody know if Ameraucanas can be feather sexed?
