Is it illegal to shoot a vulture with a b.b. gun?

Is it illegal to shoot a vulture with a b.b. gun? And did not kill it just a sting. ( i did not do it i want to know before i act )

because they are getting closer and closer to my house and my dogs are going crazy. one is just getting on the chimney and peering down at my dogs to bug them.

IN NY all raprures are protected I dont know if Vultures qualify as that .. But BB guns are quiet ; ) I just wouldnt post it on your Face book

I Truthfully do not know if the sting would keep them away .. I am dealing with Hawks and I know they are illigal to shoot where I licve : (
 
Yes, they are protected. Even crows are protected. But, they are generally harmless unless you have a weak, sick, or dead animal around. If you're in the south or east and have black vultures, they may go after newborn calves and lambs, though. I'm sure your dogs will get used to them in time.
 
My daughter had a hurt turkey vulture on her farm stinky stinky bird, she fed it deer meat till it got better and it flew away after about 2 weeks, it still comes to the barn now and then to see if she will feed it. It has never attacked her dogs cats or chickens but the hissing noise it makes startles her horses.
She likes having it around it eats the road kill on the road it helps keep the area clean of dead varmints.
 
One well placed shot with a BBgun can down a bird, I downed a nasty nasty large breed rooster at 30 yrds with my BBgun after he gave me the stink eye, I just wanted him to stay away from me(had used it on the ravens at 50 + yrds and it just bounces off them)... hit him right in the spine and lights outs.....

Any predatory bird is protected so I would be very cautious with shooting at it, even with a BBgun and dont tell no one. Ravens and Crows have special regs(in canada at least) that they are allowed to be shot on private property if they are a nuiscance but vultures are not included in that.

I personally love having ours around, they pick up the scraps from the ground squirrels I shoot that she ravens and bald eagles miss.
They dont worry me like the bald eagles do, they circle and sun themselfs on our fences but they dont watch the lambs and cats like the baldies do.
 
I wouldnt hurt it, they are natures garbage men... Cleaning up dead stuff. They are pretty harmless, although they have a eerie way about them. It is probably using your chimney as a look out, to get a high view over the ground with out flying. You can buy plastic bird spikes that you mount to chimney s, ledges etc.... To keep birds from landing on it. I think that would be a better option and you wouldn't have to be there for it to work.
