I set mine on 5-15 so I am on day 10--I candled today a few of them--to feed my addiction but not bother them all!  I set 23 and I am down to 18.  In several of my eggs I could see the babies moving around.  I have one where I can see development but the chick does not seem to be moving.  I am keeping a spreadsheet of notes--who knows why--so I will candle again on day 14 and 18 to see what is going on!

Homeschool mom to 4 boys and one baby girl, a dog, a roo blrw and his 4 girls(1 BO, 2 rir, and 1 EE), 2 quail and 8 bantam chickens(1 roo and 1 hen d'uccle, 1 hen sboe, bb red oe hen, and silkies(buff, white, lavender and black))

I tried candling last night..I think I saw stuff but not really sure..plus not sure what I used was efficient ...so I'm going to just ride it out with my 22 eggs! Are you planning lock down on the 1st or 2nd?

I know this isn't related to incubating.  Sorry, but I just wanted to show off my new babies!  Picked them up at a yard sale.  Just couldn't help myself. hehe

Do you do them all or just a few at a time?

My first hatch I had no idea what I was looking at and just left all eggs in there. Then I studied pictures here and other places ... http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/261876/chicks-are-here-egg-candling-pics-progression-though-incubation and have candled my eggs this time more often to try to figure it out.  I use a very dark room and a small bright flashlight and my hand.
