Crows as Gardian Animals??? - Page 2

Must be crazy west coast crows... They eat baby birds just like hawks eat their babies. I have an acquaintance in Seattle who had two crows try and eat their chicks. One would scare the chicks to the sides, the second would be waiting on that side to pull out body parts they could grab.

YES YES YES!!!!! you want crows around if you have a hawk problem!!!! i have a hawk nest across the street from my chicken coop and we have a healthy population of crows (10-12 crows). Anytime a hawk poses a threat to my chickens the crows are right there to chase them away. Also if you see a hawk just play or immitate a crow call and they will all come to the rescue.

I have 6 happy black star hens Niecy, Nantee, Violet, Chickira, Alice, and Kayla. 2 buff orpington hens Goldie and Tweety, 3 barred rock hens named Salt, Pepper, and Rocky. 3 white rocks named Shirley, Gurdy, and Patsy. 2 speckled sussex named Freckles and Ruby. 2 new hampshire reds named Reba and Ginger. And Duke, my delaware rooster. And 2 brand new chicks who hatched on 6/12/12

I think it's more like "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"
Yes, crows will chase off hawks and make excellent warning systems. BUT they will also eat young chicks, especially when they have a clutch of their own!

Yes, crows will eat chicks and small pullets/cockerels. So does about everything else, including jays, herons, squirrels, and all of the other normal predators we fear. I was talking about adult birds specifically. smile.png
