Have to cull my rooster

wingstone, I feel your pain

I had one that hated my DD, he went after her any time she went outside while they were free ranging. Then he attacked me twice trying to get to her. I was able to re-home him, I am pretty sure he hated her because she RUNS everywhere she goes and he saw that as a threat, but hey that is they way she is, so he had to go. He was a very pretty boy and great with the girls. However, as soon as he was gone, it was such a HUGE relief, I did not realize how stressed he was making everyone in the family including myself, so I know I did the right thing. Sometimes it is hard to remind myself they are just chickens, there is no way in the world I would put up with that from a dog or cat, so I can't belive I let it go on that long with a Rooster!

So cheers to peace at your home and hoping you get a nice new boy

I have noticed a few different things going on since,,,,,I have been going in every evening with a plate of goodies like grapes etc....and it is peaceful I can sit on the ground and everyone will calmly take them out of my hands....and since i was able to be home all day I turned the 2 young roosters loose in the flock (12 week old silver laced wyondette and a 11 week old silkie) The little silkie is dancing for my 2 year ole buff orphington, she is not amused, but I was.....I forgot how calm and relaxing it can be to just sit and watch them..

Sorry you had to cull your roo. I think our Brewster (white leghorn) will have to be re-homed or culled. He has bumped me hard once when I wasn't moving fast enough with his grain. He is so aggressive towards DH and he has started to chase after the neighbor kids. I begged DH to not do him in but to advertise him as an aggressive roo on Craig's list. Now I am thinking that maybe culling him is the thing to do but there is no way I could eat him!

I have a black jersey giant roo and he attacked me and took a bite out of my hand, let's just say his head doesn't like my boot's and he will never do that again

mmm...right now I'm dealing w/ the 'teen years' of my Speckeld Sussex rooster, who was one of four we ended up with. The other three we rehomed w/ no issue, and they are sweet as pie and having a great time. The 4th we kept b/c he was so sociable and cuddly with us, had a special coo when we visited and all...now he's becoming a hormonal nightmare. Constant crowing, and trying to dominate and go after my daughter. We don't want to eat him he's a beautiful threatened breed, and we really think he'd be great rehomed to a nice big farm w/ a flock...but the noise and aggression is something we may not be able to wait out. I am shocked how this turned out, because he was just the best, would sit and cuddle on the couch, sleep on our bellies, etc. I hate this part! My first chicks.

just Culled my buddy a few days ago. He was a meany but my first roo. Thing of it was, I couldn't justify my 4 and 6year old losing a eye cause he would attack them to! Could have just left him in the run when all the others were out but what kind of life would that have been for him? My girls understood and we are going to get another. Hopefully a nice one.it is what it is.
