The blazing red comb is a dead give away. The combs are not suppose to be that big and red until 16-20 weeks, more so 20 weeks.
I have a feeling the breeder you bought him from knows it's a cockerel.
I'm sticking to my guns with this one 100% rooster.

I sent him the video link this morning.  He acted like he didn't believe me when I told him it was crowing.  Maybe now he will believe me when he sees it for himself.  I don't think that it's a matter of not taking the bird back though.  He will process it, I'm sure.  He took all the other boys back with no fuss.  I truly believe that he could not tell it was a boy, though compared to the others, it looks more like a girl.  When do they get spurs?  This bird has no sign of any spurs yet, though I saw it fly up in the air and spur one of the girls.

I've heard that too.  She/he is a lot bigger than the others as well as 2 or 3 weeks older, so she/he is the dominent one.

It looks like everybody votes boy!  It's an hour drive for me to return it.  Now it will be another long drive.  Maybe I should just sell it on craigs list.

The hen crowing thing generally happens in a mature hen, not in a little one like yours. Yours is only 8 or 9 weeks old, and at that age crowing and a big red comb screams boy to me.

I have a year old rooster that  is just now getting spurs. And plenty of girls get spurs. That's not much help. If your chicken at that age is trying to spur the ladies, that's another check in the roo column. :)

Hi CoolCanoeChick,

There's also a "rooster round up" coming up soon at one of the chicken swap days. Its an option for you and since I'll be going all of June I can take him there if you'd like. It does seem like a "him" to me. I'll check with Greg on the next date as the "rooster guy" comes about once a month.

My Breeds: CCLs, Wyandottes, RIR, Barred Rocks, Delewares. Juvenile Breeds: Rhodebars, Marans, Partridge Barthuhners

Eggs offered: CCLs, BSLs & More to come

That would be awesome!  It would save me another drive over there.  What does the rooster guy do?  Does he process them?

Not absolutely positive but I suspect he grows them out and then processes them.

Pullets also spur at each other to establish dominance at a young age and for play.

Im sixteen years old, mamma of two horses (one off the track mare, one event mare), two pygmy goats, two dogs, (a rottie and a mutt), two cats, a bearded dragon, and 31 chickies, (silkies, australorps, easter eggers, andalusions, brown leghorns, polish, and mutts).
