I have a shipment coming this week which includes 4 d'Uccle's and a few other bantams,15 total. I am very nervous. I have never yet lost a chick. Only raised 16 so far, so I know the time will come. I also need to learn to be more practical.
Thanks for all your good advice and sharing experiences!
Thank you, you are making me blush. 😀 I am hoping your little ones do okay. Mine arrived very thirsty and drank and drank, than began fading and getting weak despite eating and drinking, I didn't step in soon enough and hoped they would recover, though I'm not sure if they would have.
Have some electrolyte solution in the water to help. I think their reserves were spent after three days in travel, last year I ordered 2 and one died out of the pair. I really want a few more but I think for me the little ones don't travel as well.
I also had three bantam cochin in the order and they are all fine. There was mention of hatching d'uccle eggs next year so I might try that route. Please let me know how yours do, my one from last year is a sassy little girl who tries to peck me if I check under her for eggs. She's also currently broody. I really like her and wanted a few more.
