Sugar water?

Ok, I've read that many people put sugar in the water for new chicks. How much sugar for a quart of water should I use, and how long should I use it?

Personally I'd not add sugar to their water. I'm not sure what the reasoning behind it is, but plain clean water seems a lot healthier than adding sugar or anything else.

I think the reasoning was to give them a little boost to get over those first rough days, but not sure what I should do...

Some hatcheries recommend sugar water for the first 2 days after receiving shipped chicks as an energy booster. McMurray recommends 3 tablespoons of table sugar to 1 quart of water.
