I want to have a get-together at my house over july 4th...my question is is there safe method of ridding my yard of these nasty mosquito pests? if i didn't have chickens, i'd use a yard fogger, but i'm questioning the safety of the chemicals with regards to the chickens.

any thoughts?

do the zappers work on mosquitos? I guess they would work on flies and such...kinda forgot about those.

thanks for reminding me.

When we sit around the gold fish pond in the evening, the mosquitos are bad. That is until we turn on our bug zapper. It doesn't get them all, but it sure thins them out.

Hi,
I've heard lots of different solutions or remedies to mosquitoes.

1 hang downy dryer sheets above your doors, rub the whole exterior of your door with them.
2 plant or place pots of marigolds around your picnic area...I have tried this, it seemed to help.
3 Put a fan blowing on your area where sitting
4 Used red bulbs for outdoor lighting instead of the white or yellow.

Again...??? These I have heard, I do know we don't have mosquitoes on a really windy day.
Now I've heard this for a coupla years, and two weeks ago decided to try it, it does really help....
This is for flies...fill a ziplock back half full of water, and nail above the exterior of your door, letting the water filled part hang down...they won't fly under it...I know I was having a serious problem with the flies...and it has cut down on them...and that is the only thing I've done differently...so I'm thinking it's working...they say to lay ziplock bags of water on your outdoor table area...same thing...haven't had a chance to try it yet..

I use so many things it is just not funny - I posted on the "FLY" thread.

A good one is the Dynatrap - it has to run 24/7 and I add Lure for mosquito's....
