Is a rooster's crow really obvious?

My little bantam is 18 weeks old and hasn't crowed.  I have tried to sneak up to the hen house and listen but have only heard low throaty clucks, is he a she?  This chook is very easy going and friendly.  They are free range.  TLB_5794.jpg

4 pekin bantams, 1 Australorp, 1 handsome rooster, 1 silky, & 1 oddball named Winzie.

Give him a couple of weeks.  One morning you'll hear this awful screeching noise, think somebody ran over the cat, then realize your little guy made his first crow!  He's a purty little thing.

Married to the old dude, 0 human kids, 2 horses, 10 cockatiels, 2 parakeets, 1 sun conure, 1 amazon parrot,  1 eccentric peacock, 1 gsd, 1 pet terrapin, 1 Blue Copper Maran rooster, and 14 world famous Jersey Giants!

Stan the Man will be missed.

Yes, at first it sounds as if he is strangling on something or trying to clear his throat.  It comes in the fullness of time.
