Sorry! No updates as I'm out of town. I had my husband send a phone picture to me, but the chick looks the same with no defining feature changes. I'll post another picture when I return in August though!

Oh yes. Definitely a boy sad.png

He is still growing - 11 weeks old tomorrow.

The other female

So out of 5 I have 2 females. hmm.png

I do have 1 female I've hatched myself. I only kept one barred rock out of those. The rest I sold.

I knew as soon as she hatched. Her parents are not SQ - and she had the well known dark wash, small head spot. She's six weeks old now.

Her father.. who I am very attached to. I can only keep one rooster - and I'm not giving him up, so I am going to grow all the boys and sell them based on their quality. I don't want to breed them to their sisters anyway.

Thanks for the update. I was wondering...did the cockerels start "walking like roos" when they were younger? And it seems the females have very tiny combs/wattles. Was this true for all of the young chicks you've had?

So far yes for the comb - all girls stayed small. My wyandotte was red early.. I'd judge more on size than redness.

None of my barred rock chicks (12 weeks today) walk like roos yet. They don't crow either, but they cock fight.

Sorry for the delay, but here are pictures of my he/she (Hochi), supposedly a Barred Rock, at almost 6 months old.  I guess it turns out it's a SHE after all, phew!  Now if she would only start laying...

If it's any consolation, I posted about the picture up above and was sure my BR was a roo.  She was the first one to lay egg- she developed a red comb really, really, early.  I was sure she was a roo- pretty much 100%  Joke was on me.  :)

I love being right big_smile.png lol

I always thought girl. I have had them develop red combs early, but if they are small and red, I think it's open to interpretation.

She is a barred rock of production quality smile.png She should lay any day now.
