I candled my first batch every day till day seven. I think I'm just gonna candle at 7/14 next weekend. I was really able to see which egg of the first six was clear compared to the others at that stage, and confident enough that it wasn't just a slow developer. But then again I'm new to incubating and candling so I still need to develop an eye for a good egg vs. bad egg. 

I agree, "98 is not bad... always remember low is better then high.." and that it is the high temps that are detrimental to chick development in the egg.  I use a still air incubator set up and it regularly dips into the 97-98 degree range at night.  If this is a concern for you (keeping you up at night) maybe move the incubator into the house where temps won't fluctuate at much.  I have also noticed that people are prone to candling their eggs every day or so and I would recommend waiting until 9 days have past before the first candling.  For one, you will see a lot more ( and generally much clearly defined) development.  Second, every time you open the incubator you lose humidity and temp.  Last handling the eggs can introduce many more contaminants just by touching them.

More pics of my set up.  I have 15 eggs set of mixed breeds.  Roo was a BCM and the hens are Buff Orp, 2 Blue Wheaton Americuns, and Blue Orp.  Can't wait to see what hatches from this mutt mix.

 

Very nice indeed, i have had my temps at night drop to about 98.1 but i usually bump it up at night around 8 to about 100, then in the am i usually bring it back down to 99, it will usually hang around 100 to 101 all day

i noticed mine was doing that and i went into nearly all my rooms upstairs and finally i moved everything to the basement were the temp stay's the same and it was cool down there and i got my temp to stay at 100 and not go up or down....

She's an amazing little bird! I read that they can cover up to 15!  I think that's a little much.  She is definitely covering the 8 - though I am not sure where her feet are
 

So temp seems to be holding between 98.7 and 101, hope that is good.  Me and grands couldn't resist candling yesterday, day 3, and all eggs have a shadow.  One seemed a little smaller but the egg was a little bigger so proportionately it may be fine.  Will check again on day 7 and see what we have then, meanwhile just keeping watch over the temp. 

I candled three of the 28 yesterday, the three that are not in cartons :D They also all look good. Can see the veining and the little dot despite the brown eggs!
