I don't understand this 'world police' thing. The term crops up from time to time in sentences such as, 'We should stop being the ....'. What's it about? Is it some official role approved by the UN or a figment of the imagination or waht? I thought that the UN provided a kind of police or peace keeping force from time to time.

Could someone explain, please?

Never what? Never invade/declare war? Or never invade a country based solely on our "belief" that there may be a threat?

It's kind of a joke.... basically it refers to the idea that the United States has a tendency to act like it's the unofficial police force around the world.

Thanks. Now I understand. It's not often seen that way elsewhere!

I always see America being called the police force when talking about the amount of bases and troops stationed over seas or they use the term when America decides to invade another country for "humanitarian" reasons.

I asked for a clarification of your question.  You may think that we all understand your line of thinking, but its just not the case.  I am not a mind reader, so ask a complete question, like this:  "So you think we should never invade a country?" or you can say: "So you think we should not invade countries that may have WMD's under any circumstances?" or something like that.  I can't fairly answer a question when it is unclear.  old.gif
