OK so I modified my new coop already. I cut the front welded wire and added a additional run. Why? I don't know. I figure they are not free ranging so give them more room.

Anyway the sand is working out great. Sand makes the poop sit on top and dry right out. The poop in the run seems to just disappear. The poop in the coop I use a cat litter scoop, and in 5 minutes I am done. The poop is small at this stage though.

They are about 6-7 weeks.Speckled Sussex.

The reason they do not free range is because of my garden and manicured lawn. I heard chickens do some damage.

Also I will be making a cookie tin heater and getting a smaller waterer. Anyone know if there are smaller waterers for inside the coop? The waterer I  have from TSC has a 11" base. I have a 12" cake tin under it so it don't get water all over.

I was thinking of just a small quart one for the coop. It only has a 6" base. Stromburgs has a 1 gallon wall mount one but I am not sure how to heat it in the winter.

It comes down to I dont have enough room for the waterer without it getting in the way. Such as the nest box, pop door..etc. The feeder was custom made and hangs on the clean out door.

Let me know.

Anyway enjoy the pics. Any and all comments are welcome.

Looks nice, I think it fit's in with the rest of your yard, Coops can be small but if laid out right they look and feel bigger.

Beautiful well thought out job, well done! This kind of in-city set up is what should be presented when people petition for in-city hens :)

That look great. They will appreciate the extra space. For winter you can go to tsc and get a submersible little heater that is used for fish ponds and such. Then you can still hang the waterer and keep it out of the way.

My mods.

Added a cool wall mount waterer, changed the rooste bar to longer and wider then what I hade, adde a fan for this summer heat, and added a roof to the run I added.

Oh and the chicks are seen here too. *8 weeks? Cant tell if any roosters.
