What did you do in the garden today?

It's been dry for "a spell" here, negligible rain, so I have been watering, every other day.

Our place is lined and up the walls with 1/2 inch welded wire. The mice fly through it no problem.
The snake has moved on to the barn. I no longer smell it in the coop, but I do in the barn. He can eat all the ground squirrels and mice he wants. I don't mind snakes. They just smell.

If they didn't eat my eggs, I'd let ours stick around too... Especially since I don't have any baby chicks this year. Trying to reduce my flock size...

GAH, I've fallen behind again!

Got the messiest raised bed cleared out but there was so many weeds and grasses to pull, the level has dropped a lot. I think I'll buy some of the crummy bagged soil from a local store and dump all of last years pots, and empty the left over compost tea solids in there as well. I might even scoop up some of the composted stuff from the run. It's the bed intended for green beans and pickling cucumbers so I need to get it going.

We got a nasty late frost the other night and that killed the Better Boy tomato that I had rolled the dice on. No one to blame but myself.

Scarlette had a litter of either 7 or 8 kits last night and they seem hale and hearty. This is only her second litter and while she lost her first litter it wasn't her fault. We had a mixup with her breeding date and the nest box wasn't in her hutch. We felt terrible and she was clearly upset. Poor girl.

What a day. Cleaned out the truck, whoever thought it was a good idea to put carpet in trucks... They suck. Leather seats, sure, maybe. Carpet on the floor, just, why? It's a truck with 4WD and can tow 14k#. It goes in the mud, dust, sand, lots of brome and stickers/burrs/caltrops. Cruel thing to do, carpet. Pff. Anyway, glad it's not a new truck.

Ok. So my pest issue appears to be self inflicted! The mulch, it's holding lots of moisture and fungus. So, fungus gnats! Lots and lots. At least I think that's what these are. 99.9% sure. They are everywhere. And I haven't seen a single cucumber beetle or eggs.

Insane damages

I smell like a bottle of essential oils exploded on me. I am spraying everything down. It's really helped the pumpkins. Hopefully we're done with rain so I can let the mulch dry.

Planted our tomatillos today, got a few fun new mint plants and splurged on a new glazed pot, only a small one but it's perfect for mint or flowers. I needed a pick me up, hormones are way out of balance from new, excessive stresses. I also worked on getting my patio herb pots put back in their summer locations. I need to trim everything.

Oh yeah! We ate two big crowns of broccoli for dinner out of the garden. DH wants to grow a lot more broccoli this year. He loves it!

My copilot A1 search bot said I can make and maintain a bread starter made with regular dry yeast and gave me a recipe. But the recipe doesn't make sense, since it says it takes 5 to 7 days before I can use it and that's how long it tastes without the yeast.
