What did you do in the garden today?

View attachment 1837073 View attachment 1837075 View attachment 1837076 Fed all the flowers.
Sprayed the chickens.
They were such good girls.
Marion berries are coming.
Grapes are getting bigger.

I am jealous of your grapes!! I have wild grape vines. They start with the teeny tiny grapes and then I never seen anything else ever.

There was a breeze! I was able to stay out this evening to weed one bed that was very weedy. Finished fertilizing the peppers and tomatoes. And the Japanese beetles are in full swing now...they prefer my soybeans the most, and bush beans are their second favorite menu item.

I hung up 2 Japanese beetle traps today. Within 20 minutes, I already had 4 beetles in one of them! The beetles like to decimate my wild grape vines and then they head to the garden.

Today was my granddaughter's 2nd birthday party. It went nicely!
In the evening I picked about 28 cherry tomatoes. There are still a bunch more on the plants, but I want them to get redder before I pick them.

watered everything, which means it will rain tonight.

My father in law, best gardener I've ever met, has always said the only way you can guarantee it will rain is to water your garden, he's usually right Lol!

Washing your car is as effective as ever, to bring about rain. :he:gig
BTW Beer can,,, can you expand some on pickling radishes???
Never heard of it, but willing to try it. And still remember you were attempting some action with those 2 year old onions. How did that turn out:old

Good morning gardeners. Wow, what a delicious break from the heat. Temps this morning were in the high 50's. Up in the low 80's today with little humidity. Need to mow backyard and weed whack in the garden. Ugh! Picked peas and a good amount of lettuce. The butternut squash plants are reaching out for more room. I left a couple of heads of romaine to see if I can get a few tiny tomatoes to go with the lettuce. I've got another yellow squash developing and there are a few small cucumbers starting. I pruned the tomato plants a little. The scallions are getting bigger, almost picking size. Yesterday I finally got around to pruning the shrubs in front of my windows. Now I can see out of my windows into the yard. I've done quick pickles with white icicle radishes @Beer can. Quite tasty. Have a great day everyone.

Picked MORE cucumbers today. Cucumbers looking rough now from dry weather and heat but pumping out tons! Finally got some rain today though Luffas are doing amazing. Some vines are 9’ long Tomatoes finally starting to turn but plants are rough. Waiting for my bell peppers to change. I think I have some cucamelons ready but not sure if their ready to pick. What do y’all think?

This morning it felt chilly at 52.
Got everything watered and spent time with the chickens. My LH is (to me) an amazing girl. Checked her over to see if I noticed mites. She stood on my lap put her head down and fluffed her feathers all the way out and let me do my thing. She fell asleep! Then all the others came and laid at my feet and had a preenathon’
:weeSaw the Lizzards together. They hunt after I water. Still haven’t found where they’ve set up their new den. The male is a showstopper.
Usually the girls follow me but today they were all about digging in the pallets I was disassembling.
Has anybody seen my crowbar? :he
My tomatoes have officially hit the first hoop of their cages.
I see lots of blossom buds on the cantaloupe.
The WIND came up ... all fun was over.
Happy Gardening :frow

I just use a simple pickle brine recipe of vinegar and water salt, add the whole radishes (some people slice them up but I don't) and let set in the fridge for a couple of weeks. The red on the radishes kinda dissipates and turns the brine pink, the heat mellows out also. My kids love them.
The two yr old potato onions, all sprouted!! Two of them I didn't think were going to but have tops coming up now. Wish I had a lot more of them. I'll probably just replant all of the 'offspring' next yr again.
