What did you do in the garden today?

I am SO FAR BEHIND on my garden.... Ugh. I couldn't WAIT for spring and now I've been swamped with other things and just not enough time...

I DID get my seed potatoes put into some grow bags. I have more to do but ran out of bags. Thinking about putting some in a tire or a homemade "barrel" made of chicken wire filled with dead leaves. I've never tried it before but what do I have to lose?

I haven't started ANY seeds yet but I did finally move my poor Meyer Lemon tree outside. I also moved some other fruit tree seedlings I started last fall. The started out great but then progress stalled and now several have died. I moved them outside hoping the sun will kick start them again....

Yesterday I receive the two native plums I ordered through Gurneys. I need to get them planted tomorrow. Three are about 3ft tall, but just sticks with roots. They look dormant, but healthy. I think they'll do fine.
I got mine last week, and managed to get them planted the next day. One was a 3' tall stick with roots like you said, and the other was a little bigger and had a couple branches.

Finally, I got the four persimmons and the redbud that had been stuck in a box traveling all over creation for three weeks (not Gurney's fault, it was FedEx) and they looked healthy and were still moist. I did soak the roots before planting, and I think they'll be fine.

The plants I ordered from the conservation district were ready the same day - what I was trying to avoid by spacing out my order, but I did get the 5 Indian Plums planted yesterday. I can't wait for them to grow and start blocking the annoying lights from the construction business across the river.

The 10 Salal bushes were just tiny things in peat plugs, but leafed out not dormant, so today I planted them in small pots and left them in the greenhouse. I don't have the areas I want to plant them ready yet anyway, I need to weed-whack and dig out blackberry roots from the sloped areas where I want them. I'm not sure if I should try to plant them later this year, or if they will do better to grow bigger in pots until next year.

The five Thimbleberries and five Serviceberries I didn't have time to plant, so I heeled them in the garden until next weekend.
For Tomatoes and peppers, I transplant into larger quart yogurt containers I drill holes in the bottom.
Wow, thank you - you just saved me a bunch of time, money and hassle. I have a ton of these I use for freezing- now I feel like an idiot for not thinking of using them for pots, LOL.

Has anyone had luck ordering seeds from etsy? I'm after some lemon thyme and all of my usual sources for seeds are only selling live plants or charging insane shipping fees.
I've never tried Etsy. I would look for reviews on the seller and ensure others are reported good germination before I ordered anything. Also, it may be worth asking if the seller guarantees the seeds at all. If you get a pack of duds because they were not properly stored (exposed to moisture, heat, etc.) by the seller, it would be nice to know they offer replacement or refund services. However, if it's inexpensive and the reviews are good, I would so it's worth the gamble.

Enjoyable to walk outdoors on a Monday in March and see some bright ice crocus adding a color punctuation under an ancient American Holly tree.

We have purple crocus flowers blooming out front today. There's a small bunch just outside the front door actually. I love seeing them every year as they usher in Spring. Our daffodils have sprouted and are rapidly growing leaves as well. They'll likely be blooming by Easter.
