What did you do in the garden today?

How beautiful. You are a good gardener and a great video maker
Thanks so much. I have a lot of garden videos on you tube. If you click on the circle on the top left of the garden video it will take you to my you tube channel. Click videos and you will see lots there , chicken and goat vids too, those are more just for fun! I do informational garden videos for master gardener and some local community gardens in my area. Thanks again for the kind words!

Did you plan the gurneys trees outside? And what's your weather like? My plum trees from them looked dead for a few weeks, and then they suddenly had green leaf buds sprouting. I planted outside the two days after the arrived, keeping then most with wet paper towel and wrapped in the plastic they shipped in for that first two days.

Mine were pretty slow. I’d say the native plants of the same types were leafed out and blooming before the new ones showed signs of life. And one was much slower than the other.
Oh, thank you, you both give me some hope!

I ordered two plum trees, four persimmons, and a redbud (and I'm still waiting for two butternuts) all of which arrived at different times, so I can't remember when I planted them exactly, but it was early/middle March. I planted all of them the day I got them or the following day, since I'd been expecting them and the areas were already prepped.

The weather then was high 40s - low 50s and we never got below freezing at night, so I think they should have been OK, but a few weeks later we got a hot spell where it was in the high 70s during the day. The native plums we planted around the same time loved it and budded up, but these still look dormant if not dead (one of the plums is getting a bit of green on a couple buds, but none of the others.). I guess I should give them some more time and see what happens. Maybe prune them if they still haven't done anything in a couple weeks...

I was really proud of myself at the grocery store the other day - the garden section had a bunch of tomato and pepper starts sitting out right as you walk in, and they looked pretty healthy, too. I stared at them for a long time, fighting with myself, and finally, I did not buy any!!!!

@BReeder! I hope it's not COVID & you start feeling better soon!

Interesting video .
@NewBoots I also have a couple different varieties growing here too for the bees, I love the look of the purple with my Black Eyed Susans. I know echinacea is used medicinally, but I've never done anything with it or taken it.

@NewBoots if you get a chance will you take a pic of your bug & bee houses? I'm trying so hard to make a nice place for pollinators here & would love a hive but can't because of the bears - maybe a house would work!

I love that everyone is posting pics now - it's been a long winter. I loooove the pics!

So the 25 strawberry bare roots showed up yesterday & I got them in & watered. We'll see how I like growing them, I feel like those large beds could be much more productive with pepper or garlic plants. :gig I will give the strawberries a couple years & see, but I already feel like I won't be planting them again when it's time because they won't produce enough, but maybe not. I need to get them mulched today too.

I planted all the bush squash & cukes yesterday too, all far away from the garden because of the stupid bugs. 3 squash in the straw bale too - curious on that! This is my anti-bug garden year - mostly onions, garlic, shallots, beans & hot peppers. We'll see how that works out, ha!

So seed mat is off & I only have a bunch of cayenne starts under the lights! Almost done!

I feel the same way.... I have one dedicated bed for strawberries. They went in last spring. They grew very well, and I pinched all runners so they would focus on root growth. Not many strawberries last year bc it was first year. Also, I killed quite a few when I over-fertilized late summer. This spring the remaining ones look very good, lots of flowers. Hoping for a good haul. But, yeah...are they worth a whole bed??

I was reading an article the other day about how much small children/toddlers love berries, and the variety of bright colors is a good way to get them to eat fruit - but that the prices of fresh berries in the supermarket are not cost-effective for a lot of parents. So, they might be worth a whole bed, if you have toddlers/young children or grandchildren.

True. Little kids do very much enjoy picking fruit and veg. My youngest looooved to pick the cherry tomatoes we had right next to the low deck we had in our suburban house. I think she ate 90% of those tomatoes. Now we just have a remaining teen at home.
