What did you do in the garden today?

I have an enclosed run for my chickens. And the coop is fully enclosed inside of that with a hardware cloth predator apron. There are a lot of reasons I am fence building, the chickens just accelerated the project. I also have a small Papillion that has been attacked by over 10 different dogs in his 14 years. The fence would protect him as well. The biggest reason I am building a fence is because the neighbor with the husky is a creep. He has a camera that looks into my backyard, he comes into my yard to spray "weeds," cut down flowers he doesn't like, and just to "check things out." I don't like this and he has been told off verbally.

you can put a camera too.

I don't know about your country but here it is forbidden to spy on other people's property.

Well... Woke up to snow today. Some would say a dusting, I would say about 1-2 inches. Enough to make me wonder if I'll lose the onions and potatoes I just put in... 🤦‍♀️ Anyway, at least I hadn't transplanted anything yet. And the chicky nuggets were all active and excited when I got out there this morning. I literally lay awake at night stressing that the electricity will go out and they will freeze.... Geeeeesh, this homesteading thing isn't for the faint of heart!!!
Coffee brewing, big girl panties on... Let's get this day going!!!!

snow protects from freezing.

Good morning gardeners. Welcome to the newcomers on the thread. I finally got post hole number three dug yesterday. I pretty much spent a couple of hours sitting / laying on the ground digging by hand because there were too many rocks for the post hole digger to cope with. I got 18 inches down and hit a large granite shelf. So, I trimmed 6 inches off the fence post and called it a day. We're getting a misty drizzle now with seasonal temps. I plan on spending a little time in the big garden today and removing the plastic cover from the chicken run. Tomorrow I have to drive to Boston so no work on the fence until Saturday. Only 2 more post holes to go. As far as I can tell the recent hard freeze the last few days has not destroyed any of the emerging plant life. My forsythia bush looks to be about ready to bloom and the daffodils, tulips and lilies of the valley are looking fine. The lilac and azalea are budding up as well. I haven't been able to spray my peach tree yet because it was either too windy or raining. Hopefully I can get that done tomorrow. So much to do and so little time. LOL!

you have just reminded me if I dig and pick up the rocks in front of my side porch I might get more gardening space. and my potted forsythia is blooming!

I know you are supposed to remove the flowers for the first year or two. I did that on my previous blueberries and then they all died due to my ignorance in over-fertilizing. I have 2 new blueberry plants to get in the ground and they are all flowering like mad. I don't want to pull the flowers off.... 😢 Even though it's better to remove the flowers, I might just leave them on anyway.

you can leave just a few flowers.

I've had a very crappy day.

1. Dog chewed up and busted my brand new glasses. When I went to take them away from her, she growled and snapped at me at least 3 times. I know she's just scared because she knew I was angry but this is not the first time she has misbehaved this way. Those glasses cost $200 WITH insurance. Insurance only covers frames once every 2 years which means not only is that $200 down the drain, God knows how much I'm going to have to pay for new ones.

2. My temperamental cat peed on a quilt in our living room right in front of me. She does this occasionally, usually when she's mad about something. She knew the minute I looked at her that she was in trouble. I didn't even say a word and she took off like she was launched out of a rocket. DH wants me to put her down when she does this but. I just really didn't need this today. Quilt is currently in the washer along with TWO dog beds that she also peed on.

3. Walked outside to go start another bucket of fermented feed (it's Day 2) only to discover my little greenhouse got picked up by the wind and tossed. I had 9 broccoli starts, two pineapple tops, some sweet Basil, 3 rosemary pots I recently seeded, and 2 flats I seeded with marigold seed... All douched on the ground.

I think I salvaged most of it EXCEPT the rosemary and marigolds. Probably have to start from scratch on all those... I found several seedlings in the dirt that looked like they had juuuust about been ready to break the surface. No idea what they were. I put what I could back in dirt but I don't have high hopes.

Today was a sucky day and it's not over yet.

I used to keep dogs and cats inside. they taught me they belong outside. we are much happier now.

Morning all. Sorry about the bad day @TJAnonymous.

@WthrLady I hope the pup is ok, let us know. My rescue goes back Wed for another blood test, his CRP is high & they won't clean his teeth till they know why. I'm hoping it's fixed itself with the 4 week wait. Same issue as me, funny enough! My rheumatologist can't get mine to come down either so I go see an oncologist on Wed too - same day as the dog goes back. :gig(gotta find the humor somewhere)

Aaaaanyway, raining here today & I've had a tough week. It's my day off so I'm going to watch movies & relax. Of course I say that but I'm sure I'll be out there uncovering the plants as its back to normal temps. That is kind of relaxing for me anyway.

Trying to get used to these progressive lenses, I can see everything good except the computer. Trying tho. Hopefully my spelling isn't atrocious!

I hate days like this. Makes me want to go back to bed and start new the next day. Sorry about your greenhouse. Any chance of getting ACV in kitty? When mine did that it was because of a chronic UTI caused by after effects of being fixed. ACV in her water seemed to slow it down DRASTICALLY!! I hope today is better for you!!! 🍹🌞🌱

Lethargic dog is spending the night at the vet, her bloodwork is all over the place. They're going to do an ultrasound of her gut tomorrow. If there is a mass there it would explain why she's been on a strict prescription diet for 18 months and only loosed weight for the first 5 months and then started gaining it again. 12 pounds since august and we've dieted her and exercised her like crazy. She has bursts of energy, but this past week has been a sleep fest.

So some gut stuff is treatable, some is not. We shall see.
We all agreed at home that meds are ok, but we know somethings are not fixable, and that if the worst comes, it comes.
A rescue dog is a mystery. I know they abused and overfed her, and fed her junk foods of all kinds.
Sigh....so we shall see.

OH and while I was waiting on the vet, I hung out in town..saw these at TSC - got one, yup.
