I got two 10 month old hens yesterday.  I was told they are Araucaunas.  I am a NEWBIE!!!  Are they, if not what are they??  HELP001.JPG007.JPG

They are Easter eggers.  Many hatcheries/people call and sell EE as Ameraucanas or araucanas.  Those girls look as if they have had a rough life.

Friends are the family you make for yourself.

I agree - and they look way over mated. In need of some recovery.

True Araucanas are rumpless - which means they don't have tails.

Breeding: Silkies, Barred Plymouth Rocks, Ameraucanas, Naked Necks, Buckeyes, Welsummers, Marans and Mottled Houdans.

Thanks!!  Yes free range & many roos with them, 100 for sale.  My pullets I got this spring don't lay yet.  At $4.00 a doz for eggs around here. These girls will more than pay for themselves by the time the others start laying in Aug/Sept. Then chicken dinner.

You can purchase Easter Eggers from just about every hatchery there is. They are usually marketed as Araucana, or Ameraucana; but they do not meet the breed standard for either breeds.
