Roark, I read your entry to my husband because he just finished my 3rd coop, adding a run, welding old trampolines together and adding chicken wire for a run to attach to the new coop, expanding another run. And many more "honey do " things on the never ending list. Anyway, we laughed so much at your post because he is also waiting on that first egg. Lol.

And Roark is right, sex is a big motivator. His favorite foods, sweet talk, doting, etc. all work well for me! He happily will build anything if I happily take care of him.

Check this out. These guys have lots of different types of stuff, I may try a balloon or something. I had a hawk dive bomb one of my chickens. It was a smaller hawk and it went after my biggest chicken and I was standing right there! After it missed Annie it flew right in front of my face and gave the one eye. Its only happened once but it freaked me out. Im getting 3 eggs for my poor little Silkie to hatch so I may be looking into getting a couple of items from these guys. Now I am making my coop bigger too. Its ridiculous, my house is falling apart and what do I do? I build the fanciest coop in the universe. Its got lights, plugs, (everything has to have lights and plugs, Im an electrician and thats just the way it is), fans with a timer, and a flat panel heater with a thermostat! I may be moving in with my chickens........

By the way, the Gun works temporarily. My in laws have one on a timer and the Seagulls stop for a bit and come right back. On occasion we cannot even see the roof of the barns because they are completely covered with Seagulls. Pretty annoying. I'm hoping the Daddy Long Legs would work for the roof of a building. Another factor of using the gun is annoying the neighbors. It can be heard for at least a mile or so.

You're almost right. You should've said, "I feel like I should find *him* a home."

Been there, done that. Take the word of an older woman (and psychologist), if he's this grumpy at this age about spending extra time and money over keeping some helpless baby chicks safe, a future with him doesn't look promising. Especially since I'm assuming some of this money is yours, too. Unfortunately, curmudgeons do NOT improve with age. It also sounds like he might be narcissistic (my absolute favorite!)

As they say, the best way to find out if a person is worth spending a lifetime with, is to see how they react in a crisis situation. This isn't even a crisis and he's acting badly. Some things are best found out early.

He's not the only man on the planet. Find one that's more sympathetic to helpless animals (like all the guys on this site), and you'll have found a good man with a kind heart. One worth spending a lifetime with.

Thanks Alyscr1913 !!! I have had these thoughts. I am very much and animal lover, even when it comes to mice. LOL I told hin right from the beginning, "Love Me, Love my Animals". I am finding out he is not as compassionate when it comes to animals.
