craaaazy curled toes and toenails

I have a 2 1/2 year old hen whose toes seem to be curling and getting deformed in a way that is different from my other girls. (reminds me of my grammy's bunion/hammer toes).  She is walking, jumping etc normally.

Also, they all have long nails, despite being out free ranging and scratching.  My Lady with the curling toes - the nails are almost getting to the point where they could cut her leg/other toe.

I was going to wrap them in a towel and cut their nails --  anything special to watch out for as far as how short to cut?

Thanks

Have flour handy if you do cut into the quick.

My Orp hen had that curly corkscrew nails from all winter....funny how she can get around! I wrapped her in the towel, lay her on her back and use dog nail clipper, cut  little by little until I see pink OR the circular oval patten meaning you are getting very close to the quick.
