My eggs are here! *UPDATE* trying to figure out colors. :) blue, or lavender? - Page 4

So exciting! Yay, six pips! Can't wait to see your babies, too! They're going to be so cute! My first pip took a long time to start zipping, and others were shorter. One of them was suddenly hatched before I knew it had started to zip (don't remember if I'd even seen a pip smile.png - that was Toothless, my mostly black bibbed one).

The first of 11 kids in the bestest family in the world!

The Dogs: Tipper (black Lab/Cocker) and Boaz (yellow Labrador Retriever)

The Cats: Trixxie (tortoiseshell) and Pumpkin (snow shoe)

The Ducks: Anconas in black, chocolate, and lavender: Mr. Darcy, Mr. Bingley, Lizzy, Jane

zipping is when the duckling goes all around the egg, in order to pop off the "cap" of the egg, so that they can crawl out of the egg. :) Pretty much the most exciting part. I have one zipping right now!

Hey all, I'm Sierra and I currently own: one Blue swede, 1 GWH, 1 Buff Orp, 4 ancona ducklings hatched jun 28th/29th, and 1 Whippet (dog)

thank you for the pictures! they're all very cute. The one that needs a lot of help was EXTREMELY determined to break free of it's shell, but is still on the wrong end of the egg. we've been carefully pealing back, and taking off small bits of the egg, and membrane, so that the baby can breathe. she's just resting now, but we've opened it enough so that her bill, up to her little tiny nostrils can poke out enough to breathe well. her bill doesn't have a single spot on it! also, from what I can see, she looks like she'll be either a blue or lavender. she's very light. (will darken when she's dry i'm sure.) my first pipper has started to try to zip, I've seen it stick it's little bill out a few times. :) pics as soon as they come out!

clap.gif Yay!!! My first one to hatch was my lavender, and there weren't any spots on her bill either! Now she has green around where the bill meets her head and speckly dots on her bill that have come in as she's gotten older. My blue's bill is very similar.

I know! I love that there are so many brothers and sisters floating around. :) this hatch has been really difficult for the babies to get out, for some reason. the ducklings are really wide spread in how developed one is compared to the other. I've got the one baby who pipped on the wrong end, that one is in stable condition, but we've been having to help it along for a large part of the hatching. (still hasn't hatched yet, but is very talkative, and it can breathe, so we're letting it work on it's own for awhile) the first one that pipped is now zipping, I'd say it's about half way there. Both of those have bills with no spots, and very light fluff from where I can see them. we have one that was assisted that pipped, but the pip collapsed on itself, and the baby wasn't getting fresh oxygen to it, it's not got a nice sized hole in it's shell, I can see a bill with lighter grey/blue spots around the egg tooth almost like a pair of parentheses (*) then higher up on the bill it has a black streak. I think this one may be tri color, and it's the only baby so far that isn't light colored out of six that we can see. I keep looking at the bills, and looking at the spot where they've made a hole in their shell, and there's no black babies! I've said all along that lavender, blue, and silver were colors I hoped for, and so far that's all I've gotten except for one baby. crazy huh? ( I don't know for sure what their colors are, I won't know til they're out and dry, but there's definitely only one black/chocolate baby. I'm thinking it's a black because there's some blue-ish tints to it.)
