Alfalfa for Geese/Ducks

Thread Starter

We are going on vacation for 10 days and we will need to keep our Geese/gosling, Ducks/ducklings contained in an outside pen during that time. I was thinking about putting a bale of Alfalfa in the run to keep them busy during this time. Can too much alfalfa be harmful? My boyfriends 22 yr old college city kid will be taking care of things, but beyond water, feed and collecting eggs, he really won't be doing much more than that. That's why I'll need to keep them locked up while were gone. What's been your experience with providing alfalfa? Thanks!

What a coincidence that you asked this!  As I was feeding the horses yesterday, I was wondering if geese can eat alfalfa or alfalfa pellets.  I think alfafa averages about 16% protein (at least the Standlee pellets I buy are min 16%).  I hope you get some replies...

I mix shredded Alfalfa in with my chicken feed, along with oats, and feed it to all of my poultry. Havent had a problem and my chickens are ALL laying.
