my coturnix quail just started laying eggs this week there are males in with them crowing i havent actually sexed them yet as these are my 1st quail want to be 100%sure im not killing all my females instead of males. But my question is would the 1st eggs be fertile yet or would the boys not know there job for another week or so?

Some or most of your eggs are likely fertile now. The rate will be higher in a couple weeks. If you put a coturnix roo in a pen alone where he can hear the others. He will likely crow non-stop.... If you have wild type birds post some pix and we can help you feather sex'em... Bill
