Pekin Duck Advise? Male/female ratios...

So, Im ordering 3-4 Pekin ducks and 8 chickens to all live together.  All chickens will be female, but the ducks dont come sexed... I know if you have a drake there should be at least to females but If I get a ratio of 2 males 1 female will they constantly bug the female or other chickens even if i get them as day olds?  Or will they all adjust to each other growing up and be more peacful with each other?  Or should I attempt at venting and getting ride of a male or two? I'd be fine with 1 male 1 female... Hope I get at least one female.. Anyone have advise they can give me?  Thanks.

The way i understand it chickens are not built the same anatomically speaking as ducks so drakes shouldn't be allowed to get near hens(chickens) As little ones it should be ok but i think it will have be divided up accordingly as you learn the genders of the ducks.

My chickens arriving next week will not be kept nor free ranged with my ducks because i have 3 drakes...  hu.gif

The drive to mate for animals go far beyond 'oh we're like brother and sister I couldn't possible do that to you". It's really primal and instinctual and no amount of hand raising is going to make that go away. I'm sorry. :( I buy from Metzers and pay the extra for sexing and I also pay the small amount extra for ordering less than 10. I don't mind. It means my flock is exactly what I want it to be from the beginning. No re-homing, perfect female to male ratios...and drakes apparently love to mate. And will try to mate your hens and it is extremely harmful to them. You will have to rehome all your males but one in the 5 you are ordering. Plus keep them away from your hens although I have read of some being able to have theirs free ranging in a large space, that have enough female ducks and do not bother the hens but that seems to be more an exception than a rule you can count on. You cannot keep 2 drakes and 3 girl ducks- the girls will be overmated and it's really a bad life for them. <3

Thanks so much, I'll try to attempt Venting i guess.. I wish I could pay an extra fee but Canada doesn't have many hatchery's and they don't offer sexing for ducks so i don't have much option to get exactly what i want, Ill just have to cross my fingers for a female in the 4 I'm getting..

Hopefully the ducks will get along with the chicks, they'll always be together unless there's problems.  It's my first time getting poultry, done lots of research and hope it all goes well for my first time...  Thanks for the great advise!
