I wouldn't name them if there was a lot of them (my aquarium fish don't have names because there's 34 of them (I count them by type to make sure there's none missing) )  or if there was no plans to keep them longer than the few months it takes to grow them to butchering size.

The old time farmers used to name their hens...if you don't believe me just watch Looney Toons "Foghorn Leghorn" and when he goes into the hen house.  Each nest has one hen with name above it.  tongue.png  Of course, we know how true-to-life that cartoon is.  D.gif

I think it's human nature to name things.  Men name their cars/boats/ etc.  all the time.  We women name our children and some of us treat the chickens like our children, so why shouldn't we name the chickie-children too!

Speaking of renaming: two of the bantams have been renamed.  Now that they've grown some more, I have figured out that we have Cochin bantams and I think the black on is a boy and the buff one is girl.  Well, they belong to youngest son and he's a Star Wars fan so they got renamed Anikin and Pa-da-may (don't know how to spell it).  Anikin is perfect because it is black and Star Wars-Anikin almost always wore black (esp. after he became Darth Vader).  SW-Anikin married Pa-da-may and had babies and I hope we get a couple of cochin babies from these two too.
