First, watching a runner duck run is awesome. They can find their own food. They aren't like pekins in water. Mine haven't started laying but I heard their decent.

Its not as fat and slow as a pekin, but its not frail either. I want a mallard but I don't want a flying bird. The rouen is great for that.

if your marans looks like that partridge then its not a black copper marans sorry (its bcm and its slate shanks but most have white shanks also they should have feathers on their shanks): they are solid black birds with copper around the hackles on the hens...

Yes my Copper Black Maran does have blacker feathers, you are correct.

In Europe most do not have white shanks.

It Is a Copper Black Marans I have, she was imported From France,

and still speaks with a French Accent

pretty brown im waiting for the french black copper marans we have to lay their dark dark eggs and im incubating any really dark ones that get laid in hopes that i can get a darker egg (i want a 9 on the color scale). i just noticed your not from the US so im guessing its said and written differently over were you live

It's a little different. I also notice a lot of difference with the Araucana.

UK, Ireland, Scotland, Australia and New Zealand have a very different standard for the US on these.

Our Maran is a favorite for eggs, nice and quiet, great layer. Maybe not as friendly as our other birds.

She wont come up to say hello but nice temperament. The Eggs are great and shes real pretty...

This is her as a pullet and shes even nicer now. Hope you get your "9+'s" soon.
