Sexing Pekins - Page 4

Actually in the pekin standard they say they head should look like that of a call duck.

I'm a Dog trainer... I do Dog Agility... then I got the crazy idea to try herding so I've gotten ducks and some chicks for eggs... and now I may end up doing shows with them too... yes... I have lost my mind.

Oh and did I mention I do vehicle decals (right now it's mostly dog designs) and lettering... and Tshirt's and coaster sets and decorative tiles... hey I've been out of a regular job...

Well the pond is done and the babies are having a ball.  The first minute and a half are showing their mating behavior but I was told by many that they are two females ... I guess this is just dominance ...

So cute! At about 1:40 on clip..my female does that..flattens herself on water and stretches neck out. It is so funny!

Momma of one Pekin and one Silver Appleyard..long term, I need to find a home for them more suitable for ducks, someone who will love them and protect them

Yeah.  They sound like ladies.  Are you going to change their names?  I have 2 swedish blue ducks who do that exact same thing.

Dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, and turkeys.........

Thanks for the input ... no name changes as that is not a real issue ... they don't really come when we call them anyway unless we have the treat bowl with us (LOL) ... cheers.

Got our first eggs this week and seems like we are getting one a day at this point.  This morning we got two and one is much larger than the other ... question:  Is the usual pattern for the eggs to be the same size from the same bird?  If so, I think we have our question answered about them both being girls.  Also, we have not tried to eat them yet ... thoughts on duck eggs in place of chicken eggs from a taste and nutrition perspective?

I was told(by breeder) that if you turn duck on back and search through the downy feathers near the butt area for their genitalia. Females will have a hole and males will have a stump-volcano looking part.(I explained them because they won't look like human genitalia.) I have pekins and while I have never checked(only my breeder did) I can tell which are which by their size and face. She has near-almond eyes and his are round, his body is fatter(he's not necessarily taller though), and his head is larger.

Uhm you can't just look like you'd look at a cat or dog, you have to invert the cloaca which if you don't know what you're doing, can hurt the bird so if you want to learn to vent sex then you should find someone to teach you. Voice sexing is 99.99999999999% acurate (if you sprta know what your listening for)

On the pictures of the eggs are sure they are both Pekins? Cause the one that's a different color isn't the color of any of my pekin eggs (I only have 2 girls so...) it's closer to my Cayuga eggs. So yes you have 2 girls color does change much shape either (one they settle in and get their systems sorted out)they can & should get bigger too until they settle into laying ( I think I heard about 4 weeks)
