Hello! I have raised turkeys for a while and enjoy the turkey section of BYC, but I just got my first trio of Chickens! I got just-hatched Silkies. I was wondering.... with my turkey poults I have always made a soft "purring" or "cooing" noise that the turkeys have always responded to by getting sleepy and snuggly. Even my adult hens would calm down on their nest if I "purred" to them (yes, I'm a crazy animal lover lol). I was wondering if it's the same for chickens?? It has been my "magic noise" with my turkey poults... at night if they were crying to come out of their "house", I would purr to them and they would all nod off. Does a chicken hen purr to her chicks?? I have tried it and it seems to sort of work... but I've only had them for a day now and I'm not sure. There doesn't seem to be anywhere online to find out that sort of information... like, what sort of noises can you make to baby chicks to sound like a crazy bird lady lol. If anyone can answer that, or has any other information along the lines of specific "hen to chick" vocalizations I'd appreciate it!
