I was collecting eggs tonight and a hen flew over my head. Not 5 seconds later I felt something moving in my hair. I thought it was maybe dust but it kept moving. I came inside and noticed red mites all over my shirt and I could feel them moving in my hair. I jumped in the shower scrubbed my hair twice but I swear I can still feel them.

It happens that it was (finally sunny and bright a 6 AM so I just gave my ladies a critter check and they are insect free. Good news, since I would rather trap rats than deal with mites lice or fleas. But those poor hens can't just jump into the shower.

So... does anyone else's head start itching as soon as the topic of tiny critters is bought up?

Plant wormwood for your chickens.. they will bath themselves in these shrubs to rid themselves from mites..
you can also spray neem oil solution around to keep mites down..
